"Whenuakite: The full name compressed by the pakeha to Fenuakit, is Te Whenua-i-kite-te Manuaute-o-Tama-pahore, the land discovered by paper - mulberry kite flew by Tama-pahore. This man flew a kite at Remurera. The string broke and the kite was followed until it came to earth at this place."

Challenge shield - est. 1947

WhenuakitE and Coroglen compete each year for the Challenge Shield in Athletics. The schools have been competing for this annually since 1947, where Kaimarama School (now closed) also participated. In 2019, Whenuakite was lucky to win the shield.
