At WhenuaKITE we have K.I.T.E Kids.

They are those who are Kind - Innovative - Trustworthy - Enthusiastic.

Kia Ora and Welcome to whenuakite school

Whenuakite School is a Full Primary School catering to boys and girls from years 1 through 8, situated in the lovely Coromandel, just 5 minutes from Hot Water Beach, Cooks Beach and Hahei. We are set in a delightful rural setting and have 130+ amazing children who bring so many skills and talents to school with them. In 2019, we have 7 dedicated and highly skilled teachers, 4 teacher aides, caretaker and an office administrator; all of whom are immensely proud of our 111-year history of providing quality education to the local children of our community.

We believe that the child is at the heart of all we do, creating a learning community where each and every child is valued cared for, supported, challenged, and an understanding of their diverse needs. We aim to enhance the lives and learning of Te Akonga o Whenuakite (The Whenuakite Learner) by providing rich learning opportunities which promote success at their level. Through our core curriculum and a wide range of enrichment activities, we are able to provide our children with a well-rounded learning experience, which is exciting and fun. We have created a learning environment, which is safe, welcoming and stimulating, and promotes our vision that each Whennuakite Learner will endeavour for all-round personal hauora (well-being) and success, now and in the future. Our Values, which make up our K.I.T.E Kid, (Kids who are Kind, Innovative, Trustworthy and Enthusiastic) help to build resilience, flexibility, integrity and compassion in our akonga.

Our core values of where our children are Kind, Innovative, Trustworthy and Enthusiastic are at the core of everything we do, promote and celebrate.  They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment which prepares our children as engaged, confident, happy learners.

We challenge our staff to be ‘Agents of C.H.A.N.G.E.’ – superheroes who can make change happen for the benefit of all our akonga (learners).  We set high educational and social standards, and reflect on our performance regularly and carefully to ensure our approach consistently supports modern teaching and assessment.

Our school has a friendly, family feel, and we always have lots going on.  We have great children who are keen to learn, an excellent team of staff who go the extra mile, and a supportive, active Board of Trustees and Fundraising Team. We appreciate the importance of the partnership between home and school, and we work hard to create real opportunities for parents to become involved in the activities of the school and to create strong links with the community.

This website aims to give you a ‘taste’ of our school by providing insight into our learning community, as well as providing regular updated information for both parents and students.  I encourage you to take a good look around to see what we are all about.  If you would like to know more about our school however, please call the school office to make an appointment to come and see us – we’ll even pop the kettle on!

Kind Regards

Eamonn Kelly
